Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for ways to use your time and talent?  Our Ministry Directory lists over one hundred ministries at St. Thomas More and offers many varied opportunities to share your gifts with those in and beyond our faith Community.  The following ministries are currently seeking to expand membership:

Catechumenate / Sponsor for those becoming Catholic / Christian Initiation
The catechumenate, the process by which non-Catholics are received into (the full communion of) the Catholic Church, is in need of parishioners to serve as sponsors. Sponsors are the primary bridge in our community to those who have come to St. Thomas More seeking God and a home. Sponsors are primarily a partner for the journey of faith, serving as someone with whom to share their experiences, discuss the action of God in their lives, and have some experience of our shared faith. Catechumenate sessions take place on Sunday mornings, following the 9:15 Mass until noon. Participation in some additional liturgical rites is also expected. Additional informal opportunities for interaction between sponsor and catechumenate/candidate are the primary means by which a fruitful bond is formed. The duration of the commitment of sponsor for the catechumenate varies according to the journey of those becoming Catholic but generally ranges from nine months to two years. Formation will be provided by Andrew Casad, Director of Liturgy and Catechumenate. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please call or email Andrew Casad at 919.942.6235.

Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please call or email Kelly Fulton (5:15 and 9:15 Masses) at 919.370.7471; or Gina Watring (11:15 Mass) at 919.967.5598.

VBS requires many volunteers in order to be successful: some during VBS week and some to do preparatory work before the camp begins. This year Vacation Bible School will be held Monday through Friday, June 23-27, 2008. Adults and teens (14+ years) are needed. If you are interested in volunteering for the whole week (22 hours) or for one day (4 hours), please call or email Jim Hynes, Director of Elementary and Adult Faith Development, at 919.942.6237.
