GENERATIONS OF FAITH
Generations of Faith is an innovative approach to faith formation that equips the parish to become a community of lifelong learning by creating faith formation that
- is centered in the events of church life
- embraces all ages and generations
- promotes faith growth at home, through parish preparation programs, and, most importantly, through participation in church life.
All households in the parish are invited to participate.
Here at St. Thomas More, our Pastor Fr. John Durbin and the Faith Development staff have decided to embrace this project in which nineteen parishes in Raleigh Diocese (approximately one quarter) are participating.
Generations of Faith is designed in a very practical way to give a rounded and full experience of all the dimensions of faith development. It is developed around the events in the life of the faith community: the Church Year; sacraments and liturgy, prayer, justice and service, community life, and proclamation of the Word. In our parish we are moving towards this curriculum centered on these formative events of the Church community and the participation of all ages and generations in the shared experiences of Church life.
This approach uses a catechetical process of preparing all ages and all generations for meaningful participation in church events through a variety of learning programs, engaging them in church events, and guiding them in reflecting and applying the significance and meaning of the events for their lives as Catholics. Faith formation centered on the life of the Church builds connections among the generations and reinforces a common identity as Catholics.
It also places special emphasis upon weaving home and parish together in a comprehensive way, which provides programs, activities, and resources for nurturing faith growth at home—as individuals and families. The Generations of Faith approach strengthens family life by empowering families to share, celebrate, and live their faith at home and in the world. It addresses the whole community through the process of alignment of learning through common events and themes that are experienced and explored by all ages and all generations in the church community.
