EFD - Receiving The Eucharist
Hynes, Jim
How I receive the Eucharist
When I receive the Host, this is what I do:
- I walk to the altar with hands joined
- When my turn comes, I cup my hands, one hand on top of the other
- The priest or extraordinary minister raises the Host and I bow my head
- When I hear the words, “The Body of Christ” I answer “Amen”
- After I receive the Host in my hand I place it in my mouth, eat it, and move to the minister with the chalice
Then I move to the priest or extraordinary minister who is holding the chalice:
- The priest or extraordinary minister raises the chalice, and I bow my head
- When I hear the words, “the Blood of Christ” I respond “Amen”
- Then I carefully take the chalice into both hands, take a sip and return the chalice to the priest or minister
- I return to my seat and join in singing the Communion song
- I spend time in quiet prayer
