Service
Diakonia means "service" in ancient Greek. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose life was dedicated to service, gave us a simple formula for true happiness: JOY! Jesus, Others, You! A life of service is a life of happiness. We need adults to encourage our youth to perform service and to reflect on the Gospel and the Church’s preferential option for the poor. A great way to encourage service is to participate as well.
Below are some examples of service activities we hold throughout the year:
Adopt-a-Highway - Help clean Estes Drive between 15/501 and Franklin. *Coordinator Needed*
March for Life - A march to end abortion in Washington, DC.
Souper Bowl of Caring - An event to collect money for poor after Masses on Super Bowl Sunday.
Crop Walk - A community-based fundraising event to raise money for local hunger-fighting agencies as well as international relief.
Food Bank - Help collect food for food pantry. *Coordinator Needed*
Youth House Maintenance - Maintain cleanliness and organization of Youth House.
Adopt-a-Family - Collecting gifts for underprivileged families. Youth will collect the gifts and then wrap them as a group.
Help our youth to help others!
