“If one of your kinsmen in any community is in need in the land which the Lord is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor close your hand to him in his need...When you give to him, give freely and not with ill will; for the Lord, your God will bless you for this in all your works and undertakings.” (Deuteronomy 15)

Mission Statement/Purpose
This ministry includes other churches and/or groups and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County in order to build good, affordable housing for Orange County citizens.

Major Accomplishments
This ministry has partnered in over 12 Habitat houses and in 2001 the Art Hattman Memorial House was built entirely by St. Thomas More parishioners.

Major Activity
In fall 2008, this ministry plans to participate in Building Hope Partnership to build a house in the Fairview community in Hillsborough by providing volunteers to work each week. During this 16-week build, St. Thomas More will also be asked to provide lunch for about 20 people on four or five Saturdays.

Meeting Frequency
The primary construction takes place on Saturdays. Volunteers can also do construction work on Wednesdays and Fridays. On these days, the work is usually of a more skilled nature, however, instruction is provided to willing learners.

Meeting Venue
The building sites change. In fall 2008, Habitat will be building in the Fairview community of Hillsborough.

Estimated Time Commitment for Volunteers
On Saturdays, volunteers are asked to work a four-hour morning or four-hour afternoon shift. Occasionally, volunteers will work the entire day. During the 16-week build, you may work every week, every other week or it might depend on the project for that day.

Special Skills
Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Younger teens must come with a parent. Construction skills are highly welcomed. However, supervisors are willing to instruct any willing learner.
