Orange County Organizing Committee

The Orange County Organizing Committee is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization directed by a team of leaders from participating institutions and served by a professional organizing staff. OCOC is affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation the oldest and largest community organizing network in the Country.

250 people, representing 23 institutions publicly launched the OCOC on April, 2008 (after a 2 year organizing process) and adopted the organizations first Agenda for the Common Good. The Agenda focuses on six priorities:

  1. education
  2. health care
  3. environmental justice
  4. living wages
  5. immigrant families
  6. affordable housing

If you are interested in any of these research areas, please contact Ivan Parra.

Institutions interested in exploring membership in the OCOC – and in further shaping its Agenda – are encouraged to get a feel for the organization by sending a team of leaders to the local Leadership Training, participating in the Countywide Leadership Team, and/or sending key institutional leaders to IAF National and Regional Training.

OCOC Actions

Sunday December 7th 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Rosemary Street, the Orange County Organizing Committee will hold its Delegates Assembly. (we ALWAYS start on time and end on time).

We invite you to join us in supporting the work of OCOC; in thanking key leaders in Orange County for working with OCOC to bring about change on key issues; and in showing that St. Thomas More supports the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.

You don't have to be an active participant in OCOC to come on the 7th to support the work.  This day will be a great opportunity to actually see how OCOC works and what we are working on to help our community.

Please RSVP to Tish Galu (919.225.2986) by Tueday, November 18. The OCOC leaders from St. Thomas More have committed 50 people to attend the assembly. Please join us to fulfill that commitment.
