Deacon Phil Rzewnicki has been serving our parish since August 2005. He was ordained a permanent deacon on June 2, 1985 in the Omaha, Nebraska diocese. He has also served as a deacon at two parishes in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and the Newman Center at Ohio State University. At STM, Deacon Phil is involved with weddings, marriage prep, RCIA, cemetery services, the IFC homeless shelter, and spiritual direction for individuals. Beyond parish activities, Deacon Phil is active as a spiritual director in Cursillo within our diocese and as a volunteer with the Kairos prison ministry program at Central Prison in Raleigh. He and his wife Anna live in northwest Raleigh and have three grown children. Deacon Phil is employed part-time as a research associate with the USDA's Agricultural Research Service and as a community college horticulture instructor in the federal prison in Butner. He has worked in agriculture his entire career and has a Ph.D. in agronomy. Parishioners may contact Deacon Phil at any time by calling his cell phone during the day or his home phone in the evening.
