Xiomara Mañón Boyce (also known as Xiomi Boyce or Mara Mañón) has been the Coordinator of Hispanic Ministries since January 2008. She is originally from the Dominican Republic and has lived and gone to school in the D.R., Brockport, New York and Caen, France.
Xiomara received her MS in Educational Administration, and her BA in Spanish and French literature and linguistics. She has worked with the Cursillo Movement since Apri1 1971 and was the Lay Director for the Diocese of Raleigh for 12 years. Xiomara also worked as a youth director for 27 years, Marriage Encounter Regional Coordinator for five years, the Ecumenical Movement in Rochester, N.Y., and the Charismatic Movement. Xiomara received the Benemerenti Medal from Pope John Paul II in l999.
Xiomara has taught at several locations in the Triangle area, such as Duke University, City and County of Durham, Durham Public Schools, banks, health departments, and churches. At Durham Technical Community College she developed the ESL program, and coordinated the ABE, GED, High School Programs as well as community education programs. Other administrative duties have included the development of after school programs, homework assistant programs, communication director for Model Cities, Program Director for Girl Scouting and resident halls at SUNY at Brockport, NY. As a translator/interpreter, Xiomara has worked for the Governor's Morehead School for the Deaf and Blind.
